NYBA to Add Competitive Club Teams and Tiered Programming for 2025–2026 Season

Grand Rapids, MI – The National Youth Basketball Academy will introduce competitive teams to its developmental model for the upcoming 2025–2026 season. The update signals the next phase for NYBA as it continues to make its impact in youth basketball through intentional programming, advanced development, and providing players with competition.

Beginning next fall, NYBA will transition to a tiered system that provides players and families with flexible options to match their child’s basketball journey. To support this shift, NYBA is finalizing a partnership that will help power its new club team offerings.

NYBA’s Tier 1 program will offer a select team experience for players who have prior competitive game experience and are ready for advanced development and competitive game play. The program will include 35 athletes, divided into four age-based teams.

The Tier 2 program will continue NYBA’s proven approach for young players in the early stages of their basketball development. This track focuses on structured learning, skill-building, and gradual exposure to game play. Tier 2 is ideal for young athletes preparing to transition from recreational leagues to more advanced environments.

“We’re excited to roll out our new model for next season,” says Brandoen Guyton, Director of NYBA. “Over the past three seasons, we’ve heard from many parents and players who want more than just practice—they’re also looking for real competitive game experience.

Ultimately, our goal is to help prepare young players for the next level, whether that’s AAU, high school, or beyond. We believe the tiered model will benefit every young athlete in our program.”

Full details on the new model will be released late spring.
