State Director of basketball operations

Position Overview

The State Director of Basketball Operations plays a pivotal leadership role in driving the growth, structure, and long-term success of NYBA programming within a designated state. Reporting directly to the National Director of Basketball Operations, this individual is responsible for launching and scaling youth basketball programs, building strong community partnerships, recruiting and developing coaches, and ensuring consistent delivery of NYBA’s developmental curriculum.

This is a hybrid position. During the initial startup phase, State Directors are required to actively participate in programming and provide on-court instruction to establish credibility, build relationships, and gain operational understanding.

This role requires a builder’s mindset. State Directors must embrace the opportunity to build their programs from the ground up, supported by NYBA’s established systems, infrastructure, and leadership guidance to ensure long-term sustainability.

Minimum time commitment: 15–20 hours per week depending on state size and growth.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the successful launch, structure, and expansion of NYBA programs within the state
• Recruit, hire, mentor, and evaluate high-quality youth coaches
• Serve as the primary point of contact for families and participants
• Secure gym space and manage facility agreements
• Build relationships with schools, sponsors, and community partners
• Lead player recruitment and retention strategies to grow enrollment

Job Qualifications and leadership profile

 • 3+ years of coaching or basketball operations experience preferred
• Strong leadership and organizational skills
• Ability to negotiate partnerships and venue agreements
• Comfortable working independently while managing multiple priorities
• Background in event planning or program coordination is a plus
• Understanding of basketball terminology and youth development principles
• Must provide 3–5 professional references
• Must pass a background check

Site Director

Position Overview

Administrative Assistant

Position Overview

The Administrative Assistant is a remote, part-time role that provides critical operational and administrative support to the National Director of Basketball Operations while serving as a liaison to State Directors across all markets. This role is essential in ensuring smooth day-to-day execution of NYBA programming, communication, scheduling, and organizational systems.

The Administrative Assistant works closely with the National Director and Central Administration Team to support marketing updates, scheduling logistics, vendor coordination, and internal communication. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of managing time-sensitive tasks in a fast-paced, growing national organization.

Time commitment: 20–30 hours per week. The schedule is flexible; however, consistent task completion and deadline management are required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and update the NYBA master schedule across all programs
• Support inventory management, equipment purchasing, and order tracking
• Respond promptly and professionally to email and phone inquiries
• Coordinate directly with vendors to ensure timely deliveries and accurate billing
• Assist State Directors with operational and administrative needs
• Support marketing updates, scheduling changes, and program communications
• Provide general administrative support to leadership as needed

Job Qualifications

• Familiarity with basketball terminology and youth sports operations
• Proficient in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, email, scheduling tools)
• Experience with LeagueApps or similar software preferred (training provided)
