Grand Rapids, Michigan-The second week of the NYBA Summer League brought another night of intense competition, strong team play, and defensive grit. From clutch scoring runs to rim protection battles, each matchup showcased how quickly players are adjusting and finding rhythm.
Nova 33, Shock 27
A back-and-forth game that came down to the final two minutes.
- Early Tone: Trey Brown (Nova) attacked early, living in the paint and consistently hitting floaters and mid-range jumpers.
- Closing Power: Donell Jones III (Nova) took over late, scoring 8 straight points in the fourth and crashing the offensive glass to extend possessions.
- Consistent Spark: Kymir Hathorn (Shock) continued his standout play with crafty finishes to keep Shock close.
- Transition Threat: Jayceon Moffet-Foster added pace for Shock, thriving in transition.
Frost 24, Ignite 14
A defensive slugfest early — tied 4-4 at halftime — turned into a second-half shooting display.
- Long-Range Answers: Klayton Holman, Jakari Johnson Jr., and LJ Wallace IV combined for four 3s to open the game up for Frost.
- Interior Wall: Melo Melton and Bentley Swain locked down the paint, stopping drives and sealing off Ignite’s interior attack.

Surge 31, Storm 18
A matchup of familiar faces, this one flipped in the second half.
- Floor Control: Kalin Guyton dissected Storm’s defense in ball screens, knocking down three 3s against drop coverage.
- Two-Way Impact: Ellis Johnson added shooting and length, anchoring both ends of the floor.
- Paint Patrol: Ahmond Green and Tylar Cross-Hamilton shut down second-chance opportunities and protected the rim.

Phantom 32, Prime 22
Tight early, Phantom pulled away late behind unselfish play and ball movement.
