GRAND RAPIDS, MI. — Week 2 of the Michigan All City Fall League brought another afternoon of competitive basketball, with several games changing direction after halftime.
Transition play, extended defensive pressure and perimeter shooting all played major roles throughout the day. Teams that controlled the early portions of games were forced to respond to second-half adjustments, while a pair of late pushes kept games competitive into the closing possessions.
Two weeks in, teams are beginning to establish their identities while learning how to respond when momentum shifts.
Michigan Thunder 2032 39 (2-0) defeats Phenom Elite 29 (0-2)
Phenom Elite controlled much of the early action and continued to show an aggressive approach attacking the basket.
For long stretches, Phenom was able to keep Michigan Thunder from creating separation. But as the game progressed, Thunder began finding opportunities to get out in transition and gradually took control.
Jackson was a major part of that shift.
The big man controlled stretches of the game around the basket, impacting the boards while consistently finishing opportunities at the rim. His presence inside gave Thunder an advantage as the pace began to open up.
Once Michigan Thunder started generating transition opportunities, the game began moving in its direction. Phenom continued attacking and tried to answer late, but Thunder made enough plays down the stretch to secure its second win of the season.

VNYR 29 (2-0) defeats Ball Game 18 (0-2)
The second matchup developed at a much different pace.
The game was tied at just seven at halftime, with both teams struggling to consistently create offense and possessions becoming increasingly important.
Eventually, the perimeter shooting began to change the game.
VNYR connected on six three-pointers throughout the afternoon, providing the type of shot-making that became difficult to overcome in a low-possession game. Breckin Paul answered with four threes of his own and continued providing offense for VNYR.
What started as a slow, defensive matchup eventually came down to the final possessions, with perimeter shooting proving to be one of the biggest differences in the game.

Then the pace changed.
Next Up extended their pressure farther up the floor, possessions became faster and the game began opening up.
Eric Powell Jr. was consistently in attack mode, shooting the basketball well while continuing to put pressure on the defense. Aiden Ford contributed during the run, while Christian Broyles provided another energy spark as the game began shifting.
The second-half adjustment ultimately became the turning point and created the separation needed late.

Michigan Thunder 2031 53 (2-0) defeats J-Cats 41 (0-2)
The final matchup produced one of the highest-scoring games through the first two weeks of Fall League play.
Michigan Thunder 2031 eventually broke the game open with an 18-2 run, using defensive activity, rebounding and transition opportunities to create separation.
Elijah Sydnor followed his strong Week 1 performance with another impressive outing.
Sydnor finished with 26 points, accounting for nearly half of Thunder’s offense and continuing to show the ability to score at multiple levels.
Trey also gave Michigan Thunder 2031 an important presence around the basket, protecting the rim, blocking shots and helping control the boards.
J-Cats didn’t go quietly.
Jalen Brown erupted for 18 points in the fourth quarter, giving J-Cats one final push and forcing Thunder to continue making plays late.
The comeback wasn’t enough to erase the damage from Thunder’s earlier run, but Brown’s fourth-quarter performance helped produce one of the most entertaining offensive stretches of the young season.
