State Director of basketball operations
Position Overview
The State Director plays a pivotal leadership role in NYBA, overseeing the growth, structure, and success of youth basketball operations within a designated state. Reporting directly to the National Director, this individual is responsible for hiring coaches, recruiting families, securing gym venues, and maintaining strong communication with parents and community partners. This is a hybrid position — all administrative duties can be completed remotely. However, if a State Director chooses to coach or lead programming directly, they must be physically present at events and sessions.
To achieve optimal performance in this role, candidates must be able to commit a minimum of 15–20 hours per week, depending on the size and growth of their state operations. This position is ideal for a highly motivated leader with a passion for youth development, basketball, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities
-Oversee the successful launch and growth of NYBA programs within state.
-Recruit, hire, and manage high-quality coaches.
-Serve as the primary point of contact for families and participants in the state.
-Assist with consistently communicating program updates, schedules, and opportunities.
-Secure gym space and manage all facility-related agreements.
-Develop relationships with local schools, gyms, sponsors, and community leaders.
-Lead player recruitment and retention strategies to grow enrollment.
-Uphold NYBA’s values and ensure all programs align with its mission.
-Handle parent and player issues with professionalism.
-Represent NYBA with high character, integrity, and a team-first mindset.
Job Qualifications
-Prior coaching or basketball operations experience (3+ years preferred)
-Strong leadership and organizational skills
-Exceptional communication skills with families, staff, and partners
-Ability to negotiate venue agreements and community partnerships
-Comfortable working independently and managing multiple tasks
-Background in event planning or program coordination is a plus
-Must be able to provide 3–5 professional references
-Passion for youth development and basketball is a must
-Must be able to successfully complete and pass a background check
-Ability to lead by example and maintain high personal character standards
-Prior administrative experience in basketball
-Understanding of the sport of basketball and basketball terminology
-Must be able to resolve and handle conflict in a professional manner
Salary & Pay
This is a commission-based position with potential for part-time or full-time growth based on performance and program expansion. Income is tied directly to player enrollment and program success within your state. Additional earning opportunities are available through events, camps, and sponsorships.
Administrative Assistant
Position Overview
The Administrative Assistant is a remote, part-time role that provides critical administrative support to the CEO and COO while serving as a liaison to the State Director of Basketball Operations. This role is essential in ensuring smooth day-to-day operations across all NYBA programming. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and capable of managing time-sensitive tasks, maintaining confidentiality, and balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
-Maintain and update the NYBA master schedule across all programs
-Assist the State Director of Basketball Operations with inventory management and ordering
-Respond promptly to emails and phone inquiries
-Purchase and track basketball equipment and supplies
-Work directly with vendors to ensure timely deliveries and accurate billing
-Support the leadership team with additional administrative tasks as needed
Job Qualifications
-Familiarity with the language of basketball and youth sports operations
-Proficient in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets), internet research, and scheduling tools
-Experience with LeagueApps or similar software is a plus (training provided)
-Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines independently
-Must be reliable, detail-oriented, and capable of managing a flexible schedule
Salary & Hours
-$20,000 per year
-20–30 hours per week, based on workload and seasonal needs

Youth Coach
Position Overview
NYBA is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Youth Basketball Coach to lead and mentor young athletes through structured programming. The ideal candidate is passionate about player development, committed to teaching the game the right way, and driven to make a positive impact both on and off the court. This position includes coaching responsibilities, mentorship, and the delivery of NYBA’s developmental basketball curriculum.
To achieve optimal performance in this role, candidates must be able to commit a minimum of 9–15 hours per week, depending on seasonal programming and responsibilities.

Responsibilities
-Lead and execute all youth basketball sessions and training programs
-Develop fundamental and advanced basketball skills in players ages 8–13
-Teach game concepts, teamwork, effort, and character through sport
-Mentor and motivate young athletes to help them reach their full potential
-Maintain a positive and safe learning environment at all times
-Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to players
-Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding schedules, player progress, and events
-Collaborate with NYBA leadership and other coaches to ensure consistent program delivery
-Represent NYBA with professionalism and integrity
Job Qualifications
-Prior experience coaching youth sports (basketball preferred)
-Strong understanding of basketball fundamentals, terminology, and game flow
-Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
-Ability to motivate and connect with youth athletes
-Reliable, organized, and committed to scheduled practices/games
-Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends
-Must be able to resolve conflict and manage group dynamics professionally
-CPR and First Aid certified (or willing to obtain within 60 days of hire)
-Must pass a background check and provide 3–5 references
Salary & Pay
Youth Coaches will receive stipends based on their coaching assignments. Travel accommodations, including hotel stays, will be covered by NYBA for any required travel.
