GRAND RAPIDS — The National Youth Basketball Academy kicked off its 2024-25 season with a full week of basketball classes, welcoming a mix of new and returning players. The excitement was clear as 24 new players made their NYBA debut alongside 32 returning players, now entering their second or third seasons with the academy.

The week started with Monday’s session for 1st and 2nd graders, followed by the 7th and 8th grade classes. Tuesday featured the 2nd and 3rd graders along with the 5th and 6th graders, while Thursday wrapped up the opening week with the 3rd and 4th grade session, followed by the 4th and 5th grade classes, bringing a strong finish to the week

The focus for the first session of the season was all about defense. Players worked hard on maintaining proper defensive positioning, moving their feet, using active hands, and mastering the essential effort that defines a strong defensive presence on the court.

“Our young players brought incredible energy during opening week. They were focused, engaged, and showed a real commitment to improving themselves,” said the NYBA coaching staff. “It was very impressive to see them pushing their limits from day one.”
