Missouri Closes Season With Strong Kansas City Introduction

Open Gym brings together young players from across the area as Missouri looks ahead to an expanded membership model for the 2026–27 season.

Kansas City, Missouri-The National Youth Basketball Academy’s first season in Missouri came to a close in late July with perhaps its clearest indication yet of the opportunity ahead in Kansas City.

Missouri hosted two Open Gym sessions at Ewing Marion Kauffman School for boys and girls in grades 3–8, giving families throughout Kansas City and surrounding communities an opportunity to experience the program firsthand.

Some families traveled as far as 90 minutes to attend.

That level of interest was notable for a program still establishing its footprint in the market. Parents spent the sessions learning more about NYBA, watching their children compete and asking what opportunities would be available next.

On the court, the Open Gym offered an early look at the range of players Missouri hopes to serve moving forward. Some athletes were being introduced to organized basketball and structured development, while others arrived with considerably more playing experience.

That mix is also helping shape what comes next.

A New Pathway Coming to Missouri

Beginning with the 2026–27 season, Missouri plans to introduce a year-round membership model designed to give young athletes a clearer developmental pathway based on their experience and readiness.

One membership tier will be geared toward young athletes who are newer to basketball or have limited playing experience, providing an environment centered around learning the game, developing fundamentals and gaining confidence.

A second tier will serve more experienced players seeking increased competition, continued development and opportunities to compete in travel basketball.

The approach is designed to create a pathway rather than a one-size-fits-all basketball program, allowing athletes to enter NYBA at an appropriate stage of their development and progress as their skills, understanding and competitive readiness grow.

NYBA’s broader programming already spans basketball classes, clinics, leagues and club teams, with an emphasis on providing year-round development opportunities for young athletes.
