Finals Recap: Defense Tightens, champions crowned. And Frost Goes Undefeated

Grand Rapids, MI-The final week of the NYBA Summer League brought more defensive intensity than any other round , a noticeable shift as teams battled for championships. After averaging 35 points per game earlier in July, the final week saw scoring dip to just 18 points per game , a credit to high-level rotations, ball pressure, and locked-in effort.

Prime 26, Phantom 25

Legacy Division – 3rd Place Game

A competitive back-and-forth game came down to late execution.

  • Phantom Fight: Collin Jackson struggled early but found his rhythm late, while Asher Lucas closed out his summer with aggressive play on both ends.

  • Prime Clutch: Tyrion Bateman hit a go-ahead 3 late in the fourth, followed by a Luka Duba dagger from an after-timeout set to secure the win.

Ignite 39, Shock 10

Champion Division – 3rd Place Game

Ignite came out firing and never took their foot off the gas.

  • All-Around Impact: DJ Jobe controlled the tempo, not just scoring, but facilitating and setting up teammates.

  • Dominant Inside: Legend Williams cleaned the glass and sprinted the floor, finishing plays in transition.

  • Team Statement: Ignite closed the summer with a complete performance from start to finish.

Storm 21, Surge 14

Legacy Division Championship Game

Storm’s length, experience, and physicality controlled the game.

  • Defensive Wall: Rowen Zapata and Jevel Green protected the rim, showed in pick-and-roll coverage, and kept Surge out of the paint.

  • Finals MVP Form: Juelz Campbell led the way on both ends, making the right plays and setting the tone for Storm’s title run.

Frost 19, Nova 13

Champion Division Championship Game

Frost completed a perfect summer with another poised, all-team performance.

  • Glass Cleaner: Donell Jones III dominated the boards for Nova, but they couldn’t convert second-chance opportunities.

  • Frost Identity: Balanced attack, emotional composure, and timely execution, the same formula that carried them all July.

  • Undefeated Champs: The only team to go 5–0 in Summer League play.
