The National Youth Basketball Academy kicked off the new year with the fourth session of its season, continuing its commitment to developing young athletes. Over the first two weeks, players focused on footwork, balance, and coordination, all that are critical fundamentals that lay the groundwork. As the sessions progressed, players shifted their attention to reading the game, understanding offensive and defensive concepts, and working towards mastering the art of playing under control.
But as fresh talent made its debut in Session 4, a familiar question emerged: Why do I keep seeing the same faces?
The answer is simple, consistency leads to excellence. With school and travel basketball in full swing, many of NYBA’s current players have had their schedules packed. Those who have had availability, were provided opportunities for additional practices.
Each age group focused in on key aspects of team play:
- 1st & 2nd Grade: Focused on 2v2 gameplay before progressing to 3v3 competition.
- 3rd & 4th Grade: Engaged in structured 4v4 matchups, improving their understanding of spacing and movement.
- 5th-8th Grade: Emphasized 5v5 play, incorporating offensive actions and defensive principles to build a complete team dynamic.
“This was a great month of basketball,” said the NYBA Coaching Staff. “A lot of learning took place. Many kids stepped outside their comfort zones, but we see real progress. We want them to embrace being uncomfortable, it’s how they grow. Our focus remains on developing fundamental habits.”
With Session 5 starting next week, NYBA will continue to challenge its players, this time emphasizing controlled play and improved pace, key factors in helping young athletes make better decisions on the court. And as school and travel basketball seasons wind down, returning players are expected to rejoin.
Session 5 begins the week of February 17th. Registration is now open.
