Atlanta, Georgia — The National Youth Basketball Academy took its first steps toward establishing a larger presence in Metro Atlanta this summer, introducing Georgia families to the organization through its first stretch of local programming.
After breaking ground with summer camp programming, Georgia continued its expansion with a two-week clinic at the Joseph B. Whitehead Boys & Girls Club.
The clinic welcomed boys and girls ages 8–14 and provided young athletes with an opportunity to experience NYBA’s approach to basketball development firsthand.
It also provided an early look at the range of players Georgia expects to serve moving forward.
Some participants were still being introduced to organized basketball and learning the fundamentals of the game. Others arrived with more experience, competitive backgrounds and an interest in taking another step in their development.
That range is significant as NYBA begins building its longer-term model in Georgia.
Establishing a Presence in Metro Atlanta
Atlanta is already home to one of the country’s most active youth basketball communities.
Georgia is beginning its presence with DeKalb County serving as its central Metro Atlanta hub while building opportunities designed to reach families throughout Atlanta and surrounding communities.
This summer represented the introduction.
The camp and two-week clinic allowed Georgia to put its programming on the floor, connect directly with young athletes and families, and begin laying the foundation for a more consistent year-round presence.
The organization’s focus now turns toward what comes next.
A New Membership Pathway Is Coming
As Georgia moves toward its next season of programming, the organization is preparing for the rollout of its new tier-based membership model.
The model will create different developmental pathways for young athletes based on their experience, readiness and competitive goals.
One pathway will provide an entry point for developing players who are newer to the game or have limited experience, while another will provide experienced players with opportunities for increased competition, development and travel basketball.
Upcoming Open Evaluations and tryout information will help introduce families to those pathways and provide athletes with an opportunity to find the environment that best fits where they are in their basketball development.
