GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The NYBA Michigan Summer League officially tipped off Monday night, giving young athletes another opportunity to compete in a live, game-based environment. Rather than emphasizing structured systems, the Summer League encourages players to develop their creativity, basketball IQ, decision-making, and confidence through real game experience. Opening night featured four competitive games across the Champions and Legacy Divisions, with teams displaying strong defensive effort, ball movement, and a willingness to make plays for one another.
Champions Division
NYBA Red 33, NYBA Black 26
Opening night belonged to NYBA Red, who established control by winning the rebounding battle and consistently creating second-chance opportunities.
Second-year Summer League returner Legend Williams set the tone with his physical presence on the glass. More importantly, he played with noticeably greater confidence, making smart decisions while helping organize the offense throughout the game.
Red’s ball movement created quality possessions instead of relying on isolation play. One of the biggest momentum swings came from Emmett Hudson, the youngest player in the Summer League, whose timely three-pointer stopped a run by NYBA Black and helped restore Red’s rhythm.

NYBA Blue 43, NYBA White 26
The final score reflected Blue’s control, but the foundation was built through defensive pressure and disciplined guard play.
Third-year Summer League returner Klayton Holman immediately looked comfortable running the game. His confidence showed from the opening possession, setting the pace offensively while applying constant pressure defensively.
Alongside him, second-year returner Noah Sanders played with an edge that impacted both ends of the floor. Whether pressuring the basketball, attacking downhill, or creating opportunities for teammates, Sanders consistently influenced winning possessions.
Blue functioned as a complete unit. Every player embraced their role, helping create a balanced performance that gradually separated them throughout the game.

Legacy Division
NYBA Black 32, NYBA Red 23
This game completely shifted after halftime.
NYBA Red controlled much of the opening half by dominating the rebounding battle, winning loose balls, and creating extra possessions through hustle.
Third-year returner Kalin Guyton led Red’s early success alongside Aaron Johnson Jr., helping build a 16-11 halftime advantage.
The game changed during the third quarter.
NYBA Black opened the second half with an 11-0 run fueled by Ahmond Green, who scored eight of Black’s eleven points during the stretch. His ability to attack the paint and finish through contact completely changed the momentum.
Guyton answered with a personal 6-0 run that briefly pulled Red back into the game, but Black maintained control the rest of the way behind Green’s physical play and defensive intensity.

NYBA Blue 36, NYBA White 28
The night concluded with perhaps the most balanced matchup of opening day.
The game remained competitive for much of the evening before Blue gradually separated in the second half through aggressive guard play and consistent paint pressure.
Although Braylen Guyton’s impact extended well beyond the stat sheet. The third-year Summer League returner consistently created paint touches, drew defenders, and generated open looks for teammates through smart decision-making.
Drew Knox and I’zais Vaughn provided the offensive spark Blue needed after halftime, combining timely scoring with active defensive play.
NYBA White showed plenty of promise throughout the contest. Nyzier Townsend, Juelz Campbell and Mason Graham continuously responded with aggressive play, giving White several opportunities to close the gap before Blue ultimately secured the victory.
